With her seemingly effortless sense of style and her winning smile, Carol Kirkwood has become a very popular BBC presenter.

She can turn her hand to weather, sport or current affairs, as well as the occasional reality TV appearance.

And interestingly, the blonde telly personality wasn’t even born with the name Kirkwood.

But what do we know about her life? Here’s the low-down…

Carol Kirkwood, born Carol MacKellaig, is a 55-year-old Scottish TV presenter.

She came into the world in May 1962 via Morar, Inverness-shire, where her parents, who had seven other children, ran a hotel.

After getting a BA in Commerce in Edinburgh, she joined the BBC’s secretarial reserve in London, which led to small roles on BBC Radio Scotland, Radio 2 and Radio 4.

When she got married to Jimmy Kirkwood, she quit the BBC and worked in recruitment, becoming a training consultant for a management consultancy in Cheshire.

In 1992 Carol spent time on a now defunct cable TV channel, Windsor TV, latterly called Wire TV, along with Borat actor Sacha Baron Cohen.

But then in 1993 she returned to the BBC as a freelance reporter, before moving into weather presenting and training at the Met Office.

In April 1998 she joined BBC News as a weather presenter for the first time, and since then she’s also worked for BBC Breakfast, added weather knowledge to the coverage of Wimbledon, and appeared on The One Show, Victoria Derbyshire and The Weather Show.

Partnered with Sacha Kovelev on Strictly Come Dancing in 2015, Carol came tenth in the contest.

After 25 long years of marriage, Carol finally divorced ex Jimmy in 2008 and has since been seeing an armed officer who protects the royals.

She has denied ever feeling like a TV sex symbol despite frequently making headlines with her delightful choices of outfit.

You can buy some of those outfits at an official BBC store for clothing worn by presenters here.

Similar dresses can be found at Diva Catwalk, too.

Despite being a full employee of the BBC, Carol did not make the ‘highest-earners’ list the corporation published last year, meaning she earns less than £150,000. The real figure has remained hidden.
