At the time, she was working at HMP Usk and HMP Prescoed, which are both in Gwent, South Wales.

Breen appeared at Cardiff Crown Court today where she denied misconduct in a public office.

She also pleaded not guilty to a second charge of illegally accessing a computer.

The first charge states: “While acting as a public officer, namely a prison officer, wilfully and without reasonable excuse or justification misconducted yourself in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public’s trust in the office holder by having a relationship with a prisoner.”

While the second charge relates to “securing unauthorised access to a programme or data held within the computer”.

The alleged offences took place between February and May 2022.

Breen, from Newport, was released on bail with a provisional trial set for November this year.

HMP Usk is a category C prison that houses 280 inmates. It is managed jointly with open prison HMP Prescoed.

It comes days after two female prison officers admitted having an affair with the same inmate at the same time.

Aleesha Bates, 29, and Jodie Wilkes, 27, both got involved with Michael Cronshaw while working at HMP Buckley Hall in Rochdale.
