Recall issued for Edwards of Conwy product due to allergy concerns

News Hour

A recall has been issued for an Edwards of Conwy product because there is undeclared gluten in the product.

The Traditional Welsh Sausage Company, which makes Edwards of Conwy products, said it was recalling certain packages of sausages due to the issue.

They have recalled four “date codes” of their Edwards of Conwy 6 Traditional Pork Sausages 400g product, as they contain gluten (wheat) which is not declared on the packaging.

The use by dates are:

  • 11 September 2021

  • 12 September 2021

  • 21 September 2021

  • 25 September 2021

While the use-by dates have now passed, with the recall issued earlier this month, anyone who may have frozen a pack may need to check.

The Food Standards Agency said: “Edwards of Conwy is recalling 6 Traditional Pork Sausages because they contain wheat (gluten) which is not mentioned on the label.

“This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten.

The police stopped 2,500 cars in the region last week, one visitor from Wigan was sent packing after saying he wanted to visit Talacre Lighthouse.

“Some of the batches affected have now passed their durability date, however the product can be frozen.”

They added: “Edwards of Conwy is recalling the above product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall.

“The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.

“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

“If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, do not eat it.

“Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”

No other Edwards of Conwy products are known to be affected, the company confirmed.
